Have you seen the documentary film called, “The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill”? You must. It’s about a very special man named Mark Bittner whose life path joins with – of all things – wild parrots.

Mark lived on the streets -- he survived by working at various odd jobs. Then, he moved to an apartment on Telegraph Hill in San Francisco, CA. The film unfolds … and the viewer is witness to Mark’s discovery and consequent relationship with parrots; they serve to teach him about himself and his life – as he explores their lives.

This film renewed my faith in the possibly that human beings can grow more aware and awaken their spirit through the wondrous animal kingdom.

Much wisdom is lost to those of us who don’t pay attention to the nature that surrounds us which can hold the answers to questions we may have locked deep inside.

When was the last time you noticed the smell of wet rain approaching BEFORE you heard the weather forecast?

Today, I invite you to pay attention to the wisdom in nature around you.

One morning last week, I was sitting on my bed gazing out through the window watching the interaction of the birds at the feeder. I’ve lived in Texas most of my life and have had the privilege of witnessing the assertive behavior of Blue Jays. But, nothing could prepare me for what I witnessed on this particular day.

After discovering our feeders, a flock of Blue Jays discovered were busily (and loudly!) eating the sunflower seeds that had fallen onto the ground. I watched with wonder as two Jays were joined by a third, which caused one of the Jays on the ground to hop up and over the other one on the ground seemingly without the use of his wings. Soon thereafter, what I would call the “Blue Jay Popcorn Dance” Blue Jays were hopping everywhere. This dance was not at all aggressive; once the Jays hopped over each other, they immediately began eating.

Witnessing this incident caused me to wonder about my own interactions with people in the business world. Sometimes, when I’ve

participated in a group whose goal is the same, I certainly do feel like hopping up and over a group member at the moment when a new person enters the group.

It sure would be satisfying to physically move my body in the form of “a hop” to celebrate and acknowledge the new person (and their new energy) in the group.

Where does natural wisdom show up in your life where you least expect it?
